Friend Friday: Content Is Queen

I have a few bandwagon lessons under my belt and not all of them pleasant memories. But, thankfully, being a journalist who scrutinizes every sentence that I write has kept me grounded in the blogosphere, and not on every passing movement with MVL in tow.
1. With all the blogging events out there, how do you determine which ones to participate in and which ones to avoid?
Friend Friday is the first blogger activity that I've participated in. Over the past year that I've been blogging, I've been monitoring the ebb and flow of blog activities and groups. Watching how other bloggers respond to link lists, challenges, trends and the like has given me great insight on how to handle myself and MVL.
2. Be honest, have you ever jumped on the bandwagon of some blogging movement/event for the wrong reasons? How did that turn out?
I really wanted to be a part of LOOKBOOK.NU before I even started MVL because I thought that it would legitimize me as being a real fashion lover. I finnnnalllly got an invitation and started scanning photos of the vast number of bloggers who were there. I was increasingly bored with how similar everyone's photos were -- down to exact poses! I couldn't bring myself to upload any looks and started to wonder what I was doing there. I deactivated my account in less than a month. Lesson learned.
3. How do you give your own flair to a blog event while still maintaining the general mission and purpose?
Considering that FF participation is my first, I guess I'd say that I just remain true to myself when answering the questions. If they aren't applicable to me, I don't post responses for that week, but I do visit other blogs to see how an issue may apply to them.
4. When determining the best content for your blog what criterion do you keep in mind?
I mean for my blog to be an interaction with me, so I blog about what interests me and what is happening in my life. I am interested in a lot of things, but not everything. So, I'm careful to curate what I present with the same integrity that I plan editorial content in my role as a full-time editor.
5. While everything will not suit your blog, how do you try and support your fellow bloggers who are participating in something worthwhile but not your style?
I enjoy seeing bloggers who aren't afraid to be their most authentic selves and participate in activities that fit their blogging perspectives. I send them e-mails and comment.
