Eunice Johnson, Style Maven

Last night was the much-anticipated opening of "For the Love of Color," Ebony, Fashion Fair Cosmetics and Macy's collaborative tribute to the late Eunice Johnson, fashion icon and co-founder of Johnson Publishing Company. Macy's at Lenox Square Mall was the scene of an elaborate reception unlike anything the chain has ever hosted in this city.

The soiree reminded me of First Lady Obama's visit to Atlanta a few weeks ago; every style savvy progressive woman in the city wanted to to be in the house. And with good reason. The opportunity to be within arm's reach of Johnson's couture gowns from designers like Pierre Cardin, Reem Acra, Nina Ricci, Bill Blass and Issey Miyake was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

I'm positive, at this very moment, that I didn't grasp the full magnitude of what I was privy to during my Ebony Fashion Fair experiences in years past. The breadth of what I witnessed tonight brought it all full circle.

Thank you Mrs. Johnson, for your vision and labor of love.
