I love being at home. Just finding things to do without leaving is easily my choice pastime, most days. Until the other day, I hadn't put much thought into what it is about being around my apartment that I fancy so much. Then, I got a Feng Shui tip about the color yellow in my Twitter feed, and I was immediately intrigued. According to feng shui enthusiasts, colors can create an optimal environment for encouraging harmony, creativity, success or balance in the home based on two specific categories, the Yin (cool) and the Yang (warm). Having money problems or want to increase abundance in all areas of your life? HGTV's Stephanie McWilliams suggests using any color in the blue, red or purple color spectrum in far left corner of your room or home to boost your prosperity. I've been surveying my space, and I don't have much of that color scheme. But I have decorated, predominantly, in wood colors -- tones of brown and green.

My affinity for being here is starting to make sense.

Wood Colors (Brown and Green)

Plush and invigorating, the Feng Shui Wood Element will bring the energy of health, vitality and growth. It is also an expression of abundance, thus an ancient feng shui cure for wealth and prosperity, and best used in the south and southeast areas of your chosen space.

Earth Colors (Beige, Tans, and Pale Yellow)

Earth colors  encourage the qualities of harmony in relationships, stability, and a sense of fulfillment in everyday life. It is also the element of the center of your home. Think of these colors as grounders.

Metal Colors (Whites and Grays)

The Metal element brings the qualities of sharpness, precision, clarity and efficiency; its balanced presence will help you live with clarity and lightness. These colors should be concentrated in the north area of your home or office.

Water Colors (Blacks and Blues)

If you're looking to create an area of peace and calm, consider choosing one of the blue or black color groups. You and everyone you share your space with will feel eased and refreshed as water is the ancient feng shui symbol of abundance. Use these tones in the east and southeast of your home.

Fire Colors (Reds, Oranges, Pinks, Purples, Bright Colors)

The fire colors in feng shui are primarily associated with the elements of fire and energy. The brightness of these hues often creates a living space which promotes high energy and passion. Thus, embellishments in one or more of these colors may be beneficial if you spend time on tasks dedicated to your career and work while at home.

Home is where the heart is.
