There's always that one trend that comes around for each of us that we continue to love even after insiders say that it's no longer "in style." I don't consider myself trendy, but I love to shop and I love fashion, and those two realities combined can be a vacuum of sorts. Surely, I'm trendy at some point. But, what separates me is that I often fashion what others would wear as a momentary fad into a staple in my repertoire, if I really love it. And I'm sure I'm not alone in this. So, if you're like me, you're glad about a few trends that are still showing up hot off the press after last season. Here's a few of my favs.
1 The Oversize Mens Style Watch
2 The Boyfriend Blazer

3 The Casual Clutch
Mink Geo Print Clutch, Dorothy Perkins, $29
4 Booties

5 Scarves

This is a great weekend for so many reasons, but mostly because I come from a place of every weekend being great. It started with a bang at Zoo Atlanta with my family. So much fun. I was already planning to take a leisurely excursion there in a few weeks, so when my mom suggested going yesterday -- her timing was perfect. A good time was had by all. And that's how I most enjoy kicking back -- with few plans and low key spontaneity. This weekend, however, I actually do have a few places I'm looking forward to being. If you're in Atlanta, maybe I'll see you around. If you're not, I've got you covered. Meet you back here for all the details.
What:
Giving a few hours of my time for a good cause.
The American Diabetes Association's Victory Over Diabetes 2010 will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Georgia International Convention Center in College Park. The program includes free health screenings, exciting workshops & keynote speakers, door prizes, lunch, exhibitors, exercise demonstrations and a special talk by singer Angie Stone about her experience with the disease.
Where:
Every August, I look forward to attending the Bronner Brothers (mid-summer) International Hair Show and it's finally here. I can stock up on my favorite products and beauty finds. If you've never been, you're definitely missing a treat.
Who:
Sunday afternoon = 'Tude for Thought
Blog radio hosts Katrice Hatten and Denise Blake explore issues important to urbane adults, including careers, love and relationships, current events, travel, and entertainment.
It's a hearty hour-long discussion that is the perfect closer to the weekend. You should join me and tune in at 6 p.m. (And don't be surprised if you hear me calling in.)
I felt kindred with Erika Nuri the moment I found out about her affinity for writing songs in the car. She asks herself, "what do I want to hear and drive to;" I imagine what I want to sing to. The difference -- her day job feeds my hobby. Nuri, co-founder of The Writing Camp -- a buzzworthy songwriting collective responsible for series of hits, has penned songs for Jason Derulo, The Pussycat Dolls, Brandy and Enrique Iglesias, and co-wrote Fantasia's #1 Billboard single “When I See You." Hers is a name you should know. So, I'm jumping on the opportunity to get the inside track -- on her approach to style, of course.
