Black Girls Rock

When I saw the commercials advertising BET's Black Girls Rock Awards, I made a simple mental note while going on about my business. I had no idea how profoundly this special presentation would impact me. BET, for the first time in a long time, has my full attention this evening. I am affirmed ... feeling as if I can do anything. I am literally bursting at the seams with excitement over this program -- saluting the work and the contributions of black women to their communities. And even more importantly, I'm ecstatic to have learned about the organization behind these awards -- Black Girls Rock, Inc. I was canvassing the internet within moments of the start of the show for more information about BGR, Inc. and when I found the organization's website, it was clear that I wasn't the only one driven there. The amount of traffic to http://www.blackgirlsrockinc.com/ had it stuttering to fulfill the requests. What a wonderful surprise. But, then again ... not really a surprise (shrugs), after all ... we do rock. In the words of Iyanla Vanzant, "Black girls rock becasue we have no other choice. We have a responsibility to rock the world ... so that our grandmothers will know that they did not die in vein." Yes!

Oh! And just in time for Christmas, BGR Inc. has T-shirts for all the black girls in your circles who rock. #Love

  1. After watching Black Girls Rock, which was the best award show BET has shown in years, I feel so inspired in so many different ways. It was a joy to watch and I'm glad that I did. It was more than positive, and very much needed. Rock on, Katrice!
